Ticket Booking In Gulmarg

Booking is exclusively online via the J&K Cable Car Corporation website (booking opens 60 days ahead). You can also get limited on-spot Cabin tickets for Stage 1 between 8–9 AM at the waiting hall – available daily unless sold out online. Portable e-copies and valid ID matching the ticket are mandatory.

History Of Gulmarg Gondola Ride

The phase 1 of Gondola was built by French firm Pomagalski in 1998. In 2005 the 2nd Phase was built which cost ≈₹180 million, opening May 28, 2005. Since its launch, it’s become Asia’s highest and second longest gondola system. It goes to Apharwat Peak. An extra chairlift opened in 2011.

How To Reach Gulmarg Gondola From Srinagar?

  • Fly: Land at Srinagar Airport (~50 km away), then 1.5–2 hr by taxi/shared cab.
  • Road: ~50 km / 1.5–2 hr via Tangmarg.
  • Local transport: In Gulmarg, the base station sits ~900 m from main parking—reachable by walking, pony, taxi, or sledge (winter).

Is The Gulmarg Gondola Safe?

Yes. Cabins undergo daily test rides, and the system is maintained professionally by JKCCC. Though a tragic accident occurred in June 2017—even people died when a pine tree hit a cabin— no major incident has occurred since.

For cardiac/respiratory patients, Stage 1 is generally safe; Stage 2’s altitude (~13,800 ft) may cause mild headaches or oxygen issues; caution advised.
